New e-resource! Polling the Nations

Polling the Nations allows you to search more than 18,000 surveys from more than 100 countries.  Popular topics include polls on health care, religion, immigration, education and elections.  Midterm elections are just around the corner!  Are you curious about voter opinions on key topics or interested in hotly contested congressional races?  Check out the results of a search based on Election 2014.

If you have questions about how polls are made or used, check out the "All About Polling" sections.  You can find a quick history of polling, an overview of types of polling questions and an explanation of the mechanics of polling.  





Not sure where to find Polling the Nations?  You can find any of the O'Grady Library databases in the databases A-Z list.

Which database is right for me?

One of the best questions asked of us in the library is, “Which database should I use?”  Some databases, like Academic Search Premier, are quite general and can address needs in a number of different  subjects or disciplines.  Others, though, like Proquest Criminal Justice, are focused on a specific subject.  Finding the right database can be the difference between finding or missing the information you need.  

To help you out with this decision the O'Grady Library has a tool on our homepage that should help you with figuring out which database will be best for you.  In the left-hand column, you will find a link to a list of available databases:

No longer accepting workstudy applications

On behalf of the entire O'Grady family, I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has applied to work at the library this fall.  We've received an overwhelming number of applications this year, and while that has it's own set of challenges, they are excellent challenges to face.  That said, we have to have a cut off, and that time is now.  Per the title, we're no longer accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year. 

Again, thank you to everyone for your enthusiasm and patronage.  We all hope to see you soon!

WORKSTUDY JOBS AVAILABLE!

Greetings to all students as we get ready for the Fall Semester!

We're getting ready and you should too!  If you have a federal workstudy award and are interested in working on campus in the library, then don't wait, apply as soon as possible.  You can come in, pick up an application, fill it out, and turn it in on the spot.

However, if you're not currently on campus, or are just technologically inclined and would like to type it out, don't worry, we can oblige you as well! We have three departments which are currently hiring: Circulation, Information Commons, and Technical Services. Please click on the appropriate link to see the job description.

To apply, please fill out the application* and either email it to Erik Gregory at EGregory@stmartin.edu or print it out and bring it directly to the O'Grady Library.
